The mechanical attributes as well as the chemical resistance and food approval make PEEK particularly well-suited to: bearings, cogs, screw wheels, hydraulic parts, pump components, wear rings, and scrapers to severe loads, and for applications in the chemical and food industries. PEEK is mainly used when other plastics are no longer suitable because of their inadequate mechanical strength and, or, chemical resistance. PEEK is widely used in industrial applications. It has one of the highest levels of heat resistance and. The material is also affected by smoking, concentrated nitric acid. PEEK polymer is a high performance plastic material with an excellent balance of physical properties. The only known medium that will dissolve PEEK is concentrated sulphuric acid. The aryl and ketone portions of its build-up give PEEK rigidity and stiffness, which means good mechanical performance and a high melting point. PEEK is resistant to almost all organic and inorganic fluids. PEEK is a semi-crystalline, opaque material belonging to the PolyKetone family of polymers called PAEK, which comprises aryl, ether, and ketone molecule groups. Peek can be glued using a variety of adhesives such as cyanoacrylate, epoxy and silicone. The material is classified V0 and generates little smoke. PEEK is hardly auto-combustible and readily self-extinguishing. PEEK can be welded using standard methods such as ultrasound and friction welding, although it is important to take the high melting point of the material – 343☌ – into notice when choosing the joining method.
